TransCore Link Logistics’ Canadian Load Volumes Remain Even in May as Record-Setting Year Continues

TORONTO –TransCore Link Logistics’ Canadian and cross-border loads were relatively flat, up one percent compared to April. However, load volumes continued to break records as May volumes were up 23 percent year-over-year, the highest May ever recorded.

Intra-Canada loads accounted for 29 percent of the total volumes and amounted to a 35 percent increase year-over-year.

Cross-border load postings represented 68 percent of the data submitted by Loadlink users:

  • Loads leaving Canada to the United States increased 39 percent year-over-year, and
  • Loads entering Canada increased 12 percent year-over-year.

Equipment Performance

Equipment postings continued its upward trend since February 2018, rising 17 percent compared to April 2018, but down seven percent compared to May of 2017.

Truck-to-Load Ratio

For a third consecutive month, May had a significant growth in equipment volumes, reaching levels last seen in August 2017.

May's increase in equipment postings loosened the truckload capacity ratio. A month-over-month rise in truck volume of 17 percent matched with a small rise in load volumes drove the truck-to-load ratio up to 1.52 trucks for every one available load posted on Loadlink. Compared to the previous month, the rate was 1.32, and year-over-year, the ratio tightened from 2.02 in April 2017.
