TORONTO - TransCore Link Logistics reported a 43.2 percent rise year-over-year in total loads in the first nine months compared to the same period last year. In fact, load volumes in the last four months were the highest ever recorded for these months. While September’s volumes dipped six percent compared to August, year-over-year volumes were 40 percent higher compared to September 2016.

Third quarter volumes were flat compared to the previous quarter; however, year-over-year volumes were higher by 49 percent when compared to the third quarter of 2016.

Intra-Canada loads accounted for 28 percent of the total volumes and amounted to a 33 percent increase year-over-year.

Cross-border load postings represented 68 percent of the data submitted by Loadlink users:

  • Loads leaving Canada to the United States increased by 48 percent year-over-year, and
  • Loads entering Canada increased by 39 percent year-over-year.


The first three quarters of 2017 saw equipment capacity trending lower compared to the same period last year. September’s capacity was lower by 11 percent month-over-month and lower by 19 percent year-over-year.

The average truck and load demands were approximately two trucks for every one available load in the first quarter of the year, and dipped slightly below this average in quarters two and three. Compared to the second quarter, the truck-to-load ratio was relatively flat, down one percent from 1.93 in quarter two to 1.90 in quarter three. Year-over-year, September ratios showed a 42 percent improvement from 3.10 in 2016.
