TORONTO – TransCore Link Logistics volumes for Canadian and cross-border loads stepped down in October decreasing eight percent compared to September. However, compared to 2015, volumes were up eight percent year-over-year.

Intra-Canada load volumes represented 28 percent of the total volumes and were up 10 percent compared to October 2015.

Cross-border loads averaged 66 percent of the total data submitted by Loadlink’s Canadian-based customers, and were higher compared to last year. Loads leaving Canada edged higher by five percent, and loads coming into Canada improved by six percent year-over-year.

Equipment capacity continued the overall downward trend to help tighten capacity. In October, truck availability decreased slightly by one percent month-over-month. Compared to last year, capacity was also lower by two percent year-over-year.

This year-over-year trend was also revealed in an improved truck-to-load ratio. Year-over-year, this ratio decreased 10 percent from 3.67 in October 2015 to 3.32 in October 2016. However, compared to September 2016’s ratio of 3.10, the truck-to-load ratio was higher by seven percent.

TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index accurately measures trends in the truckload freight spot market. The components of the Freight Index are comprised from roughly 5,500 of Canada’s trucking companies and freight brokers; this data includes all domestic, cross-border and interstate data submitted by Loadlink customers.

Truckload spot rates in specific areas can be accessed from TransCore’s Rate Index truckload rating tool, and real-time and historical data on total truck and load volumes, as well as ratios in specific areas can be accessed from TransCore’s Posting Index.
